Dark & Luminous Iceland

Part III

Story by NASTYA KFKS November 4th, 2015

Previous posts: Part I, Part II

Mystical and deep, dark and luminous... At times I wanted to cry. Most emotional place I’ve ever seen. Clouds are huge and mix with mist sometimes instantly.

For those who like driving – it is a perfect place!

Jökulsárlón – glacial river lagoon

It is large glacial lake in southeast Iceland. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers.

The most creepy place on the road for me was this totally black place in strong fog. You drive 10-20min through the narrow iron bridge (place only for one car), under and around you lava, frozen lava. That evening was really bright black, or I have to say – downbeat.

Þingvellir is a site of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. In the year 930 there was established Alfingi - one of the first and the oldest parliaments in the world.

Kerið is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, on the popular tourist route known as the Golden Circle. And After we moved to the epic place called Blue Lagoon. Terrific geothermal spa, located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland.
